The Inner Metamorphosis – A Journey Through Loneliness

‘Metamorphosis’ Cluster Illustration Exhibition

‘The Inner Metamorphosis. A Journey through Loneliness’ is a project inspired by the artist’s experience. It represents a journey of reflection and personal growth through loneliness.
The metamorphosis of the butterfly has been used as a metaphor to narrate the lonely experience of the artist while adapting to her new life in London.
A big city, a lot of people, but I am lonely
a long list of contacts but no real connections
I am lonely, weighed down by a rock
The fear grips me and all around is just dark
The exhausting battle has started
Only a hug can beat the loneliness
Now I can see myself reborn in the mirror
I can fly freely together with others.
The metamorphosis is has been accomplished.

This project has been exhibited at Cluster Illustration Show,
1 – 5 May 2019, at Ugly Duck, London.
For the show, Ilaria created an interactive illustration as the last piece of this project. People could stick a cut-out piece on the canvas that originally had a simple illustration of a butterfly egg on it. They could get involved in transforming the artist’s initial illustration into something new and community-driven. By doing so, they had the possibility to do a metamorphosis all together to overcome the loneliness.
